Sketch Pad 8.5 X 11 inches or larger for doing class work
For Sketching Glenn likes and has currently been using the Karst stone paper sketchbooks and Yasumoto mineral paper pads. These can be used for everything.
Moleskin with 111 lb paper.
Pencils
- Faber Castell - Polychromos - Sanguine & Black
- Faber Castel Albrecht Durer or Caran d'Ache watersoluble pencils in Sepia or similar colors.
- X-Acto knife and Sand Pad (for sharpening pencils - no electric sharpeners)
- Chamois 3X4 inch
- Kneaded Eraser
Optional Materials for Figure Drawing and Head Drawing
Fountain Pen (and converter for using your own ink instead of cartridges)
Namiki Falcon with SF (Soft Fine) or SEF (Soft Extra Fine) nib is Glenn's favorite (about$150)
Although this is expensive, it will last you a lifetime if you take care of it.
Other less expensive pens are also okay, but we have found that after some time they tend to leak.
So, if you are able to invest in the Namiki, it is the best choice.
--Converter for fountain pen so that you can use your own ink rather than cartridges.
- Ink (water soluble for fountain pens)
Glenn prefers Diamine Warm Brown or or Mont Blanc Toffee Brown but you may choose any brown.
- Water brush
For Sketching- optional small set of watercolors
The recommended textbook is Vilppu Drawing Manual.
