Meet Pixar Directing Animator Michal Makarewicz

MICHAL MAKAREWICZ is a multi-Award winning, former 20 year Pixar Veteran; former Head of Animation Spire Studios, current Skydance Lead Animator.

He has worked on some of Pixar's most beloved shorts and feature films such as Toy Story 3, Toy Story 4, Incredibles 1, Incredibles 2, Finding Dory, Brave, Cars 1, Cars 2, Wall-E, UP, Soul, Ratatouille, as well as many others. Michal led the Pixar internship along other educational series for employees at the studio. He also has had the honor of mentoring under Founder Ed Catmull.

Michal is also the Founder of the Animation Collaborative. An animation school focused on learning high level feature Animation, Story, and Character Design. Taught by some of the top artists in the field, the school has helped many achieve their goals. Michal is also the Founder of ProRigs a 40+ character library of professionally designed and built 3D rigs. These are for students and professionals to help for training or use in commercial use.

Lunch break is from 12:30pm to 2:00pm. We also call for 15 min break intervals aside from lunch.
At the end of the day, there will be networking and mingling from 6pm to 7pm.

It also includes 3 LIVE demonstrations in Autodesk Maya of the Bouncing Ball, Complex Physical Shot, Performance Acting Shot and industry-proven techniques for handling both common and unusual animation challenges.

Get TIPS on How to Keep a Clean Workflow

Using examples of work by the instructor and other professional animators, each information-packed lecture is designed to deconstruct a specific topic and show the effects that various choices and techniques can have on your work. The corresponding live demos then illustrate how to incorporate these choices into your work so that your ideas read clearly from blocking to polish. Students are also shown tips and tricks for keeping a clean workflow in Autodesk Maya’s graph editor throughout the animation process.

I was able to meet and befriend a good hand of amazing animators, including meeting one of my mentors from Disney Animation Studios in person, who happened to already take the full week course years ago with Michal and wanted to see what was new.
