The Program Details
A hands on real world experience to put on your resume and in your portfolio. Participants will visually develop an intellectual property start-to-finish (albeit in the fashion of a ‘sampler platter.') They will be assigned an intellectual property with all story components that lend themselves to feature film—simply put, a property a major studio like Disney, Dreamworks, PDI, Pixar, Blue Sky or Laika is likely to green light for development.
DOMINICK DOMINGO is a Disney Feature Animation veteran who spent the ‘90s riding the wave of the ‘Animation Renaissance’ in both LA and Paris, painting backgrounds and producing Visual Development art for The Lion King, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Tarzan, Little Match Girl and One By One. In the years since, he founded the Entertainment Arts track at his alma mater, Art Center, where he amassed twenty-plus years of classroom experience. He continued freelancing for major companies in gaming, Feature and TV Animation (both 2D and CG) while developing his own intellectual properties.
His award winning live-action films garnered original screenplay credits, inspiring Dominick to put his lifelong love of writing on the front burner. His short stories and creative nonfiction essays have won awards (most recently the Solas Award, Craft Literary and Writer’s Digest) and been published in anthologies. His YA trilogy The Nameless Prince, published through Twilight Times books, maintains five stars on B & N and Amazon, touching hearts the world over.

In Entertainment, there is much talk of the role of ‘story’ in the Visual Development process. For many, however, it remains an elusive buzzword. In very pragmatic terms, this class illuminates how Western Storytelling Structure becomes Art Direction in practice, not just theory. How literary themes are visually represented by the artist, lending resonance to the written word in the way only an artist can. Over 14-weeks, students will bring a story to life, from blue sky concepts to a cohesive, production-ready style guide.
In designing all assets for production (props/vehicles/weapons, character, environment, and story beats) students gain practical experience identifying what’s universal in story, while also finding their own personal connection to it in a way that nurtures their unique voice and flair!
Get your work seen and recommended. The program culminates with an industry showcase held at the prestigious Creative Talent Network Animation Expo (CTNX 2022) Nov 17-20, 2022 in the animation capital of the world - Burbank CA. (Ticket to the event is included)
